Sharpe's World - News-Archive 2006 - 2010
Sharpe's World - Oliver Tobias - "Rebeque" in "Sharpe's Waterloo", who is a great actor with lots of films and TV-work done in Britain and in Germany will be at Woodchester Park near Stroud this weekend! I loved him as Arthur in "Arthur of the Britons". He defined for me King Arthur, and I swear - there was never a better one! :-)
rg/25. August 2010 Sharpe's Children - Ah well! Working life intruded, and it's only now, that I had a chance to set up my report about the visit to the Sharpes Children Foundation where I met a deeply engaged Daragh O'Malley. Enjoy :-) rg/24. August 2010 Sharpe's Children - I met Daragh O'Malley when I was in London last week for a short visit! The Sharpe's Children Foundation is now set up - the website - have a look here at www.sharpeschildren.com - is running and the Foundation has also found a suitable office in London. I had wanted to see with my own eyes, what it looks like, and get a feeling for the people behind it, so I had send an e-mail, and after hearing that it would be okay to drop in, I did just that, awaiting to see and have perhaps a little chat with Yvette, who had answered my e-mail. So, see my surprise, when suddenly a famous figure from the screen walked in... I had a very interesting chat then with Yvette and Daragh, who said, that going to India (for the filming of the last two Sharpe episodes "Challenge" and "Peril") has actually changed his life... More to come - I'm just busily writing about this meeting, so look in the next days! The "Sharpe's Children Foundation" has already begun it's work. The SCF is supporting the Street Child World Cup in South Africa.... rg/17. March 2010 |

As many of you will have heard, Chris Clarke, founder and secretary of the Sharpe Appreciation Society, got ill with an inoperable and terminal brain tumour a few weeks ago. I have to inform you now, that Chris passed away in her sleep on Friday 1st May. What can I say? We met along the way. We exchanged occasionally e-mails. She was always friendly and very helpful, and, as people who knew her better than me, described her: full of life.
Dear Chris, I salute you. Renate, am 4. Mai 2009 |

On Death by Khalil Gibran Then Almitra spoke, saying, "We would ask now
of Death." But how shall you find it unless you seek it in the heart of life? The owl whose night-bound eyes are blind unto
the day If you would indeed behold the spirit of death,
open your heart wide unto the body of life. In the depth of your hopes and desires lies your
silent knowledge of the beyond; Your fear of death is but the trembling of the
shepherd Is the shepherd not joyful beneath his trembling,
that he shall wear the mark of the king? For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun? And what is to cease breathing, but to free the
breath from its restless tides, Only when you drink from the river of silence
shall you indeed sing.

Search for it for example on "amazon.co.uk", you will find they have now a new Cover for the DVD, from which the piccie on my the entry-Site is cut out... rg/03. Oktober 2008 Sharpe's World - I finally managed to translate my short descriptions of every original Sharpe episode from German to English. (That was the more easy part) Additionally there is a version with "historical background" Originally, I made that for myself, because I always became confused when trying to locate a certain Sharpe-Episode in a time frame. And as a German, I know much better, what happened in Germany/Austria, than on the Peninsula. To do that in my own language was no challenge, but when it came to translate very well known terms like the "Völkerschlacht bei Leipzig" into English I had to consult a lot of sources, because some terms are simply NOT direct translations... so, for example, what is known to me as the "Frieden (= peace) von Tilsit" reads in English "Treaty of Tilsit"! Aha. Or when it comes to the "Herrschaft der hundert Tage" (= reign of the hundred days) the English stubbornly insist of calling it only "Hundred Days" ...That and lots and lots of military terms like "Die Engländer siegten unter Wellington" (= "The Englishmen victoried under Wellington" - which seems NOT to be correct English) meant, that it needed in the end nearly a year, to come from a German to an English Version. (Thankfully, at least the screencaptures I'd done for every page didn't ask for translation.) :-) Oh, and if you are wondering about the few very Blue snippets of Bavarian history - please, bear in mind, that - even more than a German - I am a Bavarian! And since it is due to Napoleon, that we are... I mean ... WERE a kingdom - not that we fully accept this - we still want "...our kini (= König/King) back..." I felt I owed this to my own country. (and King). rg/30. August 2008 Harris Diaries - Jason has finally found the time to answer the second part of my questions - as always honest and open he allows us an unique view behind the screens ... - here is part 2 , and for your consideration: the new DVD-Diary No 8 is nearly done - as soon as it is available, infos can be found here. :-) rg/12.
