Footie-Adventure...
As everybody knows, who reads now and than these pages, it happens, that I suddenly vanish into far away places, to have an adventure. My explanation is, that this is in my nature, so I just can't do otherwise. When I get the call, I must follow...

This year, this happened actually at two occasions - I travelled (for the first time) with the "Sharpe Appreciation Society" to Spain - a very special Tour and a great experience. I will publish my travel diary here in the next days, so you can have a look for yourself.

Than, of course, I had to follow a call, that sent me, together with Evi, on Saturday via Manchester into the Football stadium of the "Sheffield United Football Club" - no, not to watch a play, but to attend an Evening with Sean Bean.

The evening was organized by Steve Cowen. And we got exactly what he had written. It was definitely, completely, really that. And I'm still not sure, how to describe it. It was enjoyable, funny, surprising, interesting, great. (But was it real?) A full report will follow in the next days. (Yes, it was real - as far as I know.) I just have to convince myself - and Evi - that it was really real. (Which, it was.) I mean, Reality happens, does it not? :-) rg.

Here is a little newspaper-article: In 2007 Sean Bean visited the"Royal Hallamshire Hospital" in Sheffield, to support the fundraising for a new unit...

Clegg to open new hospital unit
Published Date: 15 October 2009
HALLAM MP and Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg will join nationally acclaimed leukaemia experts next week to officially open the Royal Hallamshire Hospital's new haematology unit.

The unit's life-saving equipment and improved facilities were partly funded by £420,000 from the Sheffield Leukaemia and Blood Disorders Appeal.

The appeal was backed by the Sheffield Hospitals Charitable Trust and was launched by Sheffield actor Sean Bean in 2007. It shot past its target of £150,000.

Josh Wright, consultant haematologist at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, said: "We have been overwhelmed by the level of support from patients, families and local residents.

"With the support of the trust and charity we can now offer excellent facilities for patients undergoing therapies for all types of blood disorders."...

Ja mei! This is something for the German soul: Woods! Trees! and all for England. Sean Bean supports the work of the English "Woodland Trust" It seems, that England hasn't at all so many trees as we lucky Germans. At a Event in the Globe Theatre in London Sean Bean was under the guests to support the Charity. Good luck, Herr Bean! Who wants to know more about the Woodland Trust can have a look here at their website: www.woodlandtrust.org.uk. 9. Oktober 2009

Wow! Who would have thought, this is possible? There must be a secret Bean-Fan with KSM-Films. :-) The 5th November will become interesting for German Fans. Additional to the already named"Gangsters" (= Essex Boys) we will also get Clarissa and Lady Chatterley on DVD!! Infos with a big Dankeschön to Nicole. Here you can see the German DVD-Covers.

Aaah! Gangsters! Not a film you do know? Well, so far, it is known to Bean-Fans as Essex Boys. Filmed in 1999 in England. The German DVD-Company KSM-Films (that is the company, that made the quite successful German Sharpe-DVD-Box) will bring out "Essex Boys" under the title "Gangsters" dubbed into German on the German market!. (start: 5. November 2009) So far, I I have avoided this film - on the very good reason, that even English-speaking persons had difficulties understanding, what was said. (And I wasn't too unhappy about that - this is no easy going film, but quite intense and dark) Well, it looks, like that excuse will now not work anymore, and I will have to watch that film - finally...

this is btw the German DVD-Cover:

"IFC nabs 'Red Riding Trilogy'
Films are inspired by Yorkshire Ripper case
By SHARON SWART
Posted: Thurs., May 14, 2009, 7:22am PT

IFC Films snapped up three British films inspired by the Yorkshire Ripper investigations called "The Red Riding Trilogy."

Each pic is helmed by a different director: Julian Jarrold's "1974," James Marsh's "1980" and Anand Tucker's "1983" are self-contained crime thrillers with plot threads that link the three films.

Cast includes Mark Addy, Sean Bean, Paddy Considine, Andrew Garfield and Rebecca Hall.

Trilogy is based on David Peace's cult novels about a serial killer who stalked the Yorkshire area of England in the 1970s and 1980s. Scripts were penned by Tony Grisoni.

Pics are produced by Michael Winterbottom and Andrew Eaton's Revolution Films. StudioCanal handled sales.

"Red Riding" aired on Britain's Channel Four earlier this year. IFC Films plans a theatrical and video on demand release in fall."

As many of you will have heard, Chris Clarke, founder and secretary of the Sharpe Appreciation Society, got ill with an inoperable and terminal brain tumour a few weeks ago.

I have to inform you now, that Chris passed away in her sleep on Friday 1st May.

What can I say?

We met along the way. We exchanged occasionally e-mails. She was always friendly and very helpful, and, as people who knew her better than me, described her: full of life.

For people who knew her and want to express their condolences to her family: you might want to sponsor Chris's daughters in the 'Race for Life' taking place on 26th July in Nottingham, Chris's home town, to raise money for Cancer Research here: http://www.raceforlifesponsorme.org/clarkesisters

Dear Chris, I salute you.

23. April 2009 ...and again Black Death - In all reality and seriously the working on the film has begun!! In Querfurt. So, I think one can say, that it is now confirmed, that this film is to be done. With Sean Bean in Germany!!! But is Sean Bean already on location? I don't know. For more details please look from now on here. Here are also first piccies from the filming. :-)

Black Death

Casting Calls for Black Death to be found in two German Internet-Publications.

already since 27. March 2009 on this Site: my.modelvita.com They are looking for actors in small supporting roles. Since there are short descriptions of these roles, that tell a little bit about the film, I will in the next days post a translation into English :-) Thanks to Anne for this info.

also interesting is this short article from today in the Nordkurier, which says, apart from a short description of the film, (nothing new here), that the agency "Wanted" are looking for people of every age, who want to be in the big cinema-production "Black Death", at the side of Sean Bean and Carice van Houten. One can come at the 25. April to the Torgelower School, Goethestr. 2, for registering between 12:00 h - 18:00 h. Filming will be at the end of may.

If you want to go there, you can find Torgelow very far at the top and very far at the right of Germany :-)

"Kleindarsteller für Mittalterfilm gesucht

Torgelow (NK).

...LIFF was nice enough to confirm, that Drumhead WILL be shown on 23 April 2009, 8:30pm to 10:00pm during "The Best of UK Shorts"
Danke Erich Schultz, London Independent Film Festival --- 13. April 2009

Sometime in the not too far away past Sean Bean must have found time, to do a shortfilm!

The Black Dog "...Britain’s leading left-field techno group..." from Sheffield, gave a short information on there website: www.theblackdogma.com about some studiowork, they did on 07. April.: "We’re back in the studio writing a piece of music for a short film by London filmmaker Alan Coltman featuring the voice of Sheffield’s favourite son Sean Bean. The film is called Drumhead and will debut at the London Independent Film Festival on the 23rd April.
The poem that Sean’s reading is called Strange Meeting and was written in 1918 by Wilfred Owen, who died a few days before the war end at Sambre."

The London Independent Filmfestival "...is dedicated to showcasing new emerging film talent." It runs from 17. - 27. April 2009. The Roxy, the Coronet, and the Curzon cinemas will be the hosts. Due to it's calendar, they will show on Thursday, April 23, 8:30 pm at the Roxy: "The Best of UK Shorts", this runs for 90 minutes. Since "Drumhead" is not listed anywhere else, this must be where it can be seen.

Infos mit einem großen Dankeschön an Tina!

Hmmm. This sounds promising, doesn't it? Only there are named not many actors... That's where I start to ask myself, if the Black death has (of course mistakenly) collected already in advance? And in the end there was only Sean Bean left? That would mean very much screentime for him this time... Well, no complaint from me :-)

4. April 2009

Black Death: Ah! Like seen on www.crew-united.com, there is now named a "personal driver - Sean Bean"...Weeell! This kind of an indirect confirmation, that Sean Bean will be in the Film, and that they actually will start filming - is it not? Or why would they need a driver for him?

Thanks to Evi for this info!

Some people might ask themselves, what Sean Bean and his pretty wife Georgina are actually doing on the weekends in England? (When there is no play of Sheffield United, of course!) Well, last sunday, March, 29th, they were at the "Empire" - Party in London...

It was the night of the "Jameson Empire Awards 2009" and the Party must have been really big. And of course, there was the award ceremony itself. It must have been somewhere inbetween. Because, like you can look for yourself, all the people, like the Bean Sean as presenter of the "Icon"-Award, and - surprise! his buddy Viggo Mortensen as winner of it, were very, very jolly.

As proof don't miss this video here: www.empireonline.com/awards2009/winners/empire-icon.asp - Viggo Mortensens "Thank you"-speech!

Perhaps I should explain here, that "Jameson" is a Whiskey-brand? This makes it of course quite understandable, that the Mortensen Viggo came to the micro with a paperbag in hand, and gave at the beginning of his speech his good friend, Boromir, which is, in the end, the Sean, a bottle of same said brand.

And why the speech of him, I mean Aragorn, who is actually Viggo is done in a very happy mood... and when Viggo starts to explain (quite logically) why, when they play (perhaps) again together, Boromir will be a baby, and the Bean Sean can't stop laughing and tries in a nice way to bring his friend away from the micro, before he embarasses himself completely.... Ah well, like I said, look for yourself.

3. April 2009

It's April the 3., and Winona Kent has stopped to do the "Compleat". She lives in Vancouver, Canada. I live in München, Bavaria. So we never met in person, but due to this incredible new medium, the internet, we came to know each other nevertheless.

When I first searched for information about this great British actor, Sean Bean, back in 2001, it was Winona's Site, that emerged from the depths of the World Wide Web - and it never ceased to provide me since then with answers to my questions. The Compleat Sean Bean is done by Winona in best journalistic tradition: Extremely well researched, extraordinarily reliable, always to the point, always strictly divided between rumour and facts. And all texts done in Winona's beautiful writing style!

Winona is these days following her career as a scriptwriter. She can't complete the Compleat anymore, and this is a loss to all of us. But she promised, that it will stay. Not updated from now on, but online, as it is. And Danke, Winona, for this and all the immense work you have done over the years.

My own Website, bean-land.de, came to live in 2002, at first as a small German-only Site, that developed slowly in a lot of directions. Finally, it demands now, to express itself - and the opinions of it's webmistress - also in English language....
